9 STEPS TO ALIYAH
Infographic & Visual Guide
Historical Collage & Information Design | Academic Student Project
01 / PROJECT OVERVIEW
Project Type: Student Academic Project
Discipline: Information Design, Infographics, Photo Montage, Visual Storytelling
Topic: Making Aliyah (Immigration to Israel)
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
The Brief:
Select a complex, multi-layered subject and design an engaging infographic poster that distills extensive information into a clear visual sequence. The objective was to balance instructional hierarchy with a compelling conceptual art direction.
02 / THE CONCEPT: BRIDGING PAST & PRESENT
Making Aliyah is both a modern bureaucratic procedure and an ancient historical movement. Rather than designing a cold, generic vector diagram with flat icons, the visual direction bridges modern guidance with the emotional legacy of those who made the journey before.
Archival Photo Collage: Each procedural step—from proving eligibility and learning Hebrew to finding housing and entering the workforce—is represented through authentic archival black-and-white photography spanning early pioneers, transit camps (ma'abarot), and mid-century arrivals.
The Geographic Anchor: The poster is anchored in the center by the silhouette of the map of Israel, acting as a window framing an archival image of new immigrants arriving with hopeful smiles.
Flight & Journey Vector Elements: Contemporary vector planes and the Star of David diagonal band subtly frame the background, providing dynamic movement that links the chronological steps.
03 / INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE & FLOW
The infographic is mapped as a continuous 9-step horseshoe path starting from personal reflection and ending in professional integration:
Ask Yourself Why? (Ideological, historical, or religious motivations)
Prove You're Jewish (Law of Return criteria & documentation)
Get Help (Working with organizations like Nefesh B'Nefesh / Jewish Agency)
Have a Housing Plan (Securing an address and absorption subsidies)
Pack Your Bags (Practical relocation essentials)
Enjoy Your Free Flight! (Government-sponsored immigrant flights)
IDF Service (Eligibility & enlistment for young adults)
Time to Learn Hebrew (Ulpan immersion & language prep)
Find a Job (Professional networking & workforce transition)
04 / DESIGN & TYPOGRAPHY
Palette: A balance of heritage and approachability—warm terracotta numerical badges, soft sage-green informational callout boxes, and a crisp sky-blue-and-lavender vector foundation.
Typography: A combination of elegant serif titling for section headings and clean, highly legible sans-serif type for the instructional steps.
IMPORTING PETS TO ISRAEL
Sub-Topic Deep Dive | Academic Infographic Series
01 / PROJECT OVERVIEW
Project Type: Student Academic Project (Series Continuation)
Discipline: Information Design, Infographics, Layout Systems, Visual Hierarchy
Context: A focused drill-down from the 9 Steps to Aliyah infographic, detailing pet relocation logistics.
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign
The Brief:
Select a specific, high-friction logistical step from a macro infographic and create a dedicated micro-infographic. The goal was to break down complex government regulations, veterinary requirements, and estimated expense ranges into a clear, approachable visual guide.
02 / THE CONCEPT: THE RELOCATION JOURNEY
Transporting animals internationally involves strict customs protocols, vet approvals, and significant logistical steps. The design softens this clinical process through charming, personality-filled animal cutouts interacting directly with the infographic structure.
Flight Path Wayfinding: A curved, dashed "flight line" with airplane icons weaves across the blocks, guiding the viewer’s eye seamlessly through the sequential information blocks.
Character Anchors: Expressive dogs, cats, guinea pigs—and unexpected humorous touches like a rooster on vintage luggage and an imposing tiger—add visual interest while clearly categorizing animal types.
Graphic Badges: Integrated watermark stamps (Checkmark, Dollar sign, Approval seal, Stop hand) provide instant recognition for each informational pillar.
03 / INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
The infographic breaks the relocation process into five clean, color-blocked modules:
Mandatory Preparations: Microchipping, rabies vaccinations, travel crates, original health paperwork, and customs notification.
Estimated Relocation Costs: Clear budget breakdown spanning ground transit ($75–$800), air freight ($300–$1,200), crates, customs fees, and vet expenses.
Special Classifications (Service Dogs): Explicit callout on mandatory certification standards.
Restricted & Dangerous Breeds / Wildlife: High-contrast alert outlining advance permitting, special fees, and regulatory requirements.
Luggage & Transit Readiness: Grounding the bottom of the poster with travel-ready pets on vintage suitcases.
04 / DESIGN & TYPOGRAPHY
Color Palette: A vibrant, color-blocked geometric grid utilizing soft mint green, periwinkle blue, warm terracotta, magenta, and clay brown.
Typography: Bold, geometric sans-serif titling paired with clean, readable sans-serif body copy designed for quick reference.
